LesterMark (“the app,” “we,” “our”) is developed by Martin Lester. This policy applies to LesterMark for Mac and its companion app, LesterMark for iPhone/iPad.
Summary
Your bookmarks live in your own iCloud account — not on a server we run, and not anywhere we can see them. LesterMark has no account, no login, and no analytics or tracking of any kind; the only thing it talks to is Apple’s own iCloud, the same way any of your other Apple apps do.
What data the app works with
LesterMark creates and stores small records (“Bookmarks”) that describe things you’ve chosen to link to — for example a note’s title, the date you captured it, tags and notes you add, and a small thumbnail image. This data:
- Is stored only in your own iCloud account, in a private container associated with the app
- Syncs between your own devices (Mac, iPhone, iPad) using Apple’s standard iCloud infrastructure
- Is never sent to the developer, to any analytics service, or to any third party
- Is never used for advertising
Permissions the app requests, and why
| Permission | Why it’s needed |
|---|---|
| iCloud / Files | To store and sync your Bookmarks across your own devices |
| Photos (thumbnail generation) | To generate a small preview image when you link to a photo — the image stays in your iCloud container, never leaves your account |
| Accessibility / Automation (Mac only) | To read information (like the currently open note or file) from other apps on your own Mac, so LesterMark can create a link to it. This never sends data anywhere — it only runs locally on your Mac. |
On iPhone/iPad, the app never automates other apps directly — all capture happens through Apple’s standard Share Sheet, which only shares what you explicitly choose to share.
Third parties
LesterMark does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. No data is shared with anyone.
Account & sign-in
LesterMark does not require an account, login, or registration of any kind. It uses your existing Apple ID / iCloud account only to sync your own data between your own devices.
Looking ahead: local-only storage
We’re also working on an option to keep your library entirely local to one device, for anyone who’d rather not sync via iCloud at all — similar to how Obsidian lets you keep a vault fully offline. This policy will be updated when that option ships.
Children’s privacy
LesterMark is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same address with a new “Last updated” date.
