This is the full content of LesterMark for iPhone’s own Help screen, reproduced here so you can browse it without opening the app.

Quick Start

  1. Open whatever you want to save — a webpage in Safari, a photo in Photos, a file in Files.
  2. Tap Share, then tap LesterMark. Add a note if you want, then Save.
  3. Come back to LesterMark to see it in your list — searchable, tagged, organized.
  4. Tap any bookmark to open it — right back in the app it came from.

That’s it. Try it now: share something you have open right this moment.

What Can I Capture?

Direct — one share, done

These just work from the Share Sheet: Photos (bookmarks the real photo, not a copy), Safari or any browser (the page), Files (the file), Obsidian (via its own bridge plugin), and IMDb — sharing a title from Safari or straight from the IMDb app both work, since either way it’s the same imdb.com link underneath.

Readwise Reader

Capturing a book works the same direct way — share it and you’re done:

  1. Open the book in Reader.
  2. Tap Share, then tap LesterMark.
  3. Add a note if you want, then Save.

Page-precise links and highlight capture aren’t available from iPhone yet — on Mac, those work by reading Reader’s own local database directly, which has no equivalent on iOS. Capturing the book itself works fully on both.

Reader’s own Share Sheet doesn’t hand over the book’s title, so captures default to a generic “Reader Book” title (still editable). To get the real title automatically instead: add a free Readwise API token in Settings → Readwise Reader — get one at readwise.io/access_token.

Readest

Page and Highlight both work the same way, from the Readest app itself:

  1. In Readest, either add a bookmark on the current page, or select text to create a real highlight.
  2. Tap Copy on that note — Readest’s own per-note button copies a link to the clipboard.
  3. Switch to LesterMark and tap the clipboard icon (top-left) — this is always a manual tap, on purpose: LesterMark only reads the clipboard when you deliberately ask it to, never automatically.
  4. Review the title and note on the screen that appears, then tap Capture to accept it.

Book: Uncertain from iPhone. If you’re reading via the web version at web.readest.com in Safari, sharing the page to LesterMark should capture a link to the book as a whole — not fully verified yet.

Apple Mail

Mail doesn’t offer LesterMark a direct share option, so this takes one extra step:

  1. Open the email in Mail.
  2. Tap the Share icon, then Print.
  3. On the print preview screen, tap the Share icon again and choose LesterMark.
  4. LesterMark saves it as a plain file bookmark for now. The next time your Mac (with LesterMark running) is reachable, it automatically finds the matching email and upgrades the bookmark to a real, live Mail link — no action needed on your end.

Apple Notes

Same idea, same steps, for a note in Apple Notes:

  1. Open the note in Notes.
  2. Tap the Share icon, then Print.
  3. On the print preview screen, tap the Share icon again and choose LesterMark.
  4. Same automatic upgrade happens on your Mac — into a real, live Apple Notes link, matched by the note’s title and content.

Why the extra step for Mail and Notes? Neither app gives any iPhone extension a direct way to grab a live reference — Print > Share is the one path both allow. Your Mac does the matching work in the background using the printed page’s own title (or Subject), so it can take a little while if your Mac isn’t open right away. If a match can’t be found confidently, the bookmark just stays as a plain file — still fully usable, just not a live link back into Mail or Notes.

Organizing & Finding

All Types / All Tags / Recently Captured / All Dates — The filter buttons at the top of your list — combine them to narrow down what you’re looking for. “Recently Captured” doubles as your sort control.

Search — The search bar at the bottom searches everything you’ve captured, no matter which app it came from.

Swipe left on a bookmark — Quick actions without opening it: Copy (the Markdown link, ready to paste anywhere) or Delete.

Editing Notes & Tags

  1. Tap a bookmark to open it.
  2. Note: tap Edit next to Note to add one or change what’s there.
  3. Tags: tap Edit next to Tags to check existing tags, or type a name that doesn’t match anything existing — a Create button appears so you can make a new one on the spot.

Tags you create here are the same tags visible on your Mac (if you use LesterMark there too) — one shared set, not a separate iPhone-only list.

Linking

Copy a link

On any bookmark’s detail page, tap Copy — it copies a Markdown-style link (e.g. “[Note: Meeting notes](lestermark://open/NOTE-0001)”) to your clipboard.

Paste it anywhere — Obsidian, Apple Notes, Messages, anywhere that accepts text. Tapping the link later opens LesterMark straight to that bookmark.

Paste Link into Obsidian

A faster shortcut specifically for Obsidian: tap Paste Link into Obsidian instead of Copy — it switches straight to Obsidian and inserts the link at your cursor, no manual pasting needed.

This one also remembers the connection — it shows up afterward in that note’s Relations. See the Relations section for what that means.

Relations

LesterMark can remember which of your notes link to which bookmarks — shown right on a bookmark’s own detail page when it has any.

Out-links — What this bookmark links out to. In practice this only ever appears on Note-type bookmarks, since notes are usually the ones doing the linking.

In-links — What links in to this bookmark, from anywhere else — can appear on any type.

How a relation gets recorded — Only “Paste Link into Obsidian” records a relation. Plain Copy doesn’t, since LesterMark has no way of knowing where you’ll end up pasting it.

Tapping a relation — Jumps straight to that bookmark’s own detail page.

iPhone shows relations read-only. Checking whether a link still actually works inside the note itself is a Mac-only feature (Verify).

Tips & Tricks

  • Capturing — or re-sharing — the same thing twice doesn’t create a duplicate. LesterMark recognizes it and reopens the same title/note screen so you can review or update it, rather than making a second copy.
  • Sharing a photo bookmarks the real photo in your library, not a copy — it opens right back in Photos.
  • To bulk-add several existing photos at once instead of one at a time: add them to a “LesterMark” Album in Photos, then use Settings → Import from LesterMark Album.
  • You can search across everything you’ve captured, no matter which app it came from.

Troubleshooting

Why does LesterMark ask for Photos access?
So it can match a photo you share against your library and bookmark the real photo — not just a copy of the image data.

I shared something and nothing seems to have happened.
Make sure you’re signed into iCloud with iCloud Drive turned on (Settings app → your name → iCloud) — LesterMark’s whole library lives there.

A Mail or Apple Notes capture is stuck showing as a plain file.
It upgrades automatically the next time your Mac (with LesterMark running) is reachable — this can take a little while if your Mac isn’t open. If a confident match still can’t be found, it’s left as a plain file on purpose rather than risking attaching the wrong email or note; it’s still a fully usable bookmark either way.
